CSA Harvest Guide : Sept 1

Those gigantic carrots you received today were lovingly dubbed 'natural disaster carrots' by one of our harvest team members. A root stimulating earthquake followed by Irene's generous soaking is the only explanation for these tender giants. I think I may bake mine whole, like a potato, then slice it lengthwise and fill the gash with butter and a healthy shaking of salt.

Other harvest workers were excited about our pepper and herb pairing; poblanos and cilantro. I should have asked what dish they had in mind but it is hard to slow down during the Thursday morning rush. But Brett mentioned it would be a great week for homemade guacamole. All you'll need is onions, avocado, and a couple tablespoons of lemon juice; as you'll all ready have tomatoes, peppers, and cilantro on hand.

One last note.. thanks to everyone who came armed with sweet treats for today's harvest. Brett's birthday celebration was delightful! I don't know if I've ever had a better homemade cake or vegan cookies. And, Elana, thanks for putting the extra ice cream in my freezer!

In your bag: eggplant, carrots, bok choi, peppers, tomatoes, and cilantro. Enjoy!
